内容記述 Inactivation of staphylococcal bacteriocin (staphylococcin) by bacteria isolated from human dental plaque was investigated. Dental plaque was introduced into brain heart infusion (BHI) broth containing staphylococcin, followed by incubation, resulted in decrease of staphylococcin activity, as compared with the control without dental plaque. Staphylococcin activity was depressed also when the dental plaque was inoculated onto BHI agar plates which had been inoculated previously with staphylococcin producer strain (Staphylococcus aureus IYS-2) and its appropriate indicator strain and subsequently incubated. In this way, 14 strains which inhibited staphylococcin activity were isolated from the dental plaque of three individuals. These strains were found to have similar biological properties each other and were identified as Bacterionema matruchotii. The authentic B. matruchotii strains (strain ATCC 14266 and #13) demonstrated also the same inhibitory activity against staphylococcin. However, this activity was never found in another bacterial species from dental plaque, as far as screened. The inhibitory substance in the cell-free extracts of the isolated strains was precipitated by addition of ammonium sulfate at 70% saturation. It was undialyzable and inactivated by heating at 70℃ for 10 min, indicating this substance is proteinaceous.
