<dc:description>The mandible was compared with the humerus, as the control, in below listed physical characteristics against compression stress. Nine adult dogs were examined. Immediately after the dog had been killed, bone specimens were taken from the mandible of beneath the first molar and from the surgical neck of the humerus, and were prepared to columns of 3mm in diameter and 3mm in height for spongy bone and of 2mm and 5mm for cortical one. Then the specimens were examined by the Autograph (Shimadzu IS 5000) in the Department of Dental Technology, Matsumoto Dental College. Analyzing the compression stress-strain diagram, following results, as the means, were obtained; the strength (×10^5g/cm^2), proportional limit (×10^5g/cm^2) and modulus of elasticity (×10^6g/cm^2) were 1.13, 0.70 and 1.66 for the mandible spongy bone, 10.01, 7.74 and 32.96 for the mandible cortical one, 0.54, 0.43 and 1.08 for the humerus spongy bone, and 14.46, 9.59 and 35.66 for the humerus cortical one, respectively. The differences between the spongy and cortical bones, and that between the mandible and the humerus were discussed.</dc:description>
