Although social factors that influence dental beliefs have been acknowledged for a long time, many studies have been mainly concerned with biological factors. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of educational level on the dental health beliefs of removable denture patients. A total of 182 dentate patients aged 50 years and older with removable dentures who attended the Prosthodontic Clinic of Showa University Dental Hospital were interviewed before an oral examination. The patients were divided into two groups; those who used insurance-provided removable dentures and those who used non-insurance-provided removable dentures. Their dental knowledge and attitudes were investigated. Their educational level was also examined. We found no significant differences in educational level between the 2 groups.
