<dc:description>Stress in abutment teeth with cemented dowels and those with crown margins in fixed-fixed and cantilever bridges that resorp alveolar bone were analyzed by a two dimensional finite element method. Stress in all parts of the dentin in both bridges increased with the resorption of alveolar bone. Moreover, in th dentin and apex of the dowel in cantilever bridges, extreme stress when there were large amounts of resorption of alveolar bone, was seen. Therefore, in cantilevers bridges, cemented dowels must be created by large materials of Young's modulus. Furthermore, as much dentin as possible must be retained and the lever effect must be reduced.</dc:description>
