A small amount of the paste was implanted into the subcutaneous tissues, muscles and the periosteums. Experimental period belongs between 4 days and 61 days (Table 1). Results are as follows: 1. Radiographic examination revealed that the implanted paste showed a well demarcated radiopaque mass just after the experiment, then gradually diffused and was absorbed, and that the paste was disappeared approximately 40 days later (Figs.1-15). 2. Histopathologically, granulation tissues gradually formed around the Vitapex. The round cells consisted chiefly of histiocytes (Figs.16, 17). 3. These histiocytes were demonstrated to contain calcium salts by the von Kossa stain (Figs.18,19). 4. A lot of foam cells were observed around the Vitapex, showing histiocytes phagocytized the silicone oil in the paste (Figs.20-22). 5. Foregin body giant cells appeared adjacent to the Vitapex (Fig.22),which contained many von Kossa possitive granules in the cytoplasm (Fig.23). 6. In some cases, implanted the paste into subcutaneous tissues and muscles, irregular calcified tissues had formed near the paste, but they could not be identified to be distinct bone tissues (Fig.24). 7. In some specimens, implanted the paste near the bone, some irregular bone had formed at the surface of the original bone(Fig.25). 8. Only one case demonstrated a small but clear induced bone adjacent but free to original bone (Fig.26). It contained some osteocytes (Figs.26,27 arrows). 9. Although both alkaline and acid phosphatase activities were observed in the granulation tissues in the early period (Figs.28,29), the former had to disappear (Fig.30) and the latter remained (Fig.31) in the 2 months later. 10.
