The subjects were 285 patients (162 males, 123 females) who visited the periodontic department of Matsumoto Dental University Hospital between 1990 to 1992. Questionnaires completed by patients at their first visit were analyzed. These questionnaires covered topics such as age, gender, chief complaint, oral habits, favorite foods, periodontal treatment experiences and systemic diseases. The results were classified in to groups by age and gender. The results were as follows: 1. The 40~49 year-old group of male patients was predominant. 2. 38.6% of the patients were in moderate stages of periodontal disease. 3. The chief complaint was food impaction for 85.2% of the patients. 4. Among the male patients regarding favorite foods, the responses included drinking and smoking. 5. 50.2% of the patients had experienced some form ofperiodontal treatment. 6. Patients who brushed their teeth twice per day were predominant. 7. In regard to oral habits, 46.7% of the patients snored and most of those who snored were male patients. 8. Many of the 50~5 9 year-old group patients had hypertention and gastric ulcers. 9.
