The enzymatic activity was exclusively localized in the apical portion of the cells, which was supportive of the hypothesis that cyclic GMP is involved in taste transduction. The enzymatic activity was observed mostly on the plasma membrane and was only slightly enhanced by sodium azide, hydroxylamine or sodium nitroprusside.
