The results were as follows: (1) The total number of new patients showed a gradual yearly increase except in 1984 and 1988. The number of the new patients from the area outside Shiojiri and Matsumoto Cities remarkably increased from 1989 to 1993. (2) On the etiological cause of patients, the pericoronitis of wisdom teeth and apical periodontitis were the major diseases. The number of patients with dysfunction of temporomandibular joint showed a increasing tendency in recent years. (3) On the age of patients with dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint, the number of patients in the teens and thirties was numerous while aged patients were scarce.
