内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 During routine dissection by dental students at Matsumoto Dental University 2008, a case of double superior caval vein and paired azygos veins reported previously also demonstrated duplicate double retromandibular and common facial veins in the left retromandibular fossa of a 66 year old Japanese female cadaver who died of pneumonia. The superficial branch of the left retromandibular vein was formed by a union of the common temporal, anterior auricular and transverse facial veins. The maxillary vein on the same side of the infratemporal fossa was extremely thin. The superficial branch of the retromandibular vein ran posterior to the ramus of the mandible within the superficial substance of the parotid gland. In the area, external jugular artery was not found around the branch, but the facial nerve crossed over its branch. Afterward, the superficial branch was joined by the facial vein inferior to the gland to form the superficial branch of the common facial vein. The superficial branch of the common facial vein drained into the external jugular vein on the superficial layer of the stenocleidomastoid muscle, receiving the posterior auricular vein. The external jugular vein drained into the internal jugular vein at the level of the 6th cervical vertebra. However, the deep branch of the retromandibular vein was deeper than the parotid gland, receiving the tympanic, articular, middle meningeal, and pterygoid plexus. The deep branch ran downward along the external jugular artery. The calibers of the superficial and deep branch of the retromandibular vein were almost equal. The posterior belly of the digastric muscle and stylohyoid and its ligament passed between the superficial and deep branches. The deep branch of the retromandibular vein was joined by the deep facial vein and some branhces to form the deep branch of the common facial vein. The deep branch drained into the internal jugular vein at the level of the 6th cervical vertebra. The present case was not similar to any type that has been proposed previously. The topographical relationships of the duplicate retromandibular vein and facial nerve to the parotid gland in the retromandibular fossa are discussed.
